What to know about search engines:
Crawler-Based Search Engines - Crawler search
engines create a search list automatically based on what you
search for. No human interaction is involved in getting your
search results.
Search Tips:
Trying to cut down on sites that don't bring you what you
need. Add symbols to your search to cut down on the no-good
pages in your search.
- Most search engines will search for every word you search
for individually (i.e. George Bush Iraq War would search
for George, for Bush, for Iraq, and War all individually.)
By adding a "+" sign, you can
narrow your seach by telling the search engine to search
for them together. ex. George +Bush +Iraq +War.
- You can also do the same thing with the "-"
sign. ex. George +Bush -Iraq -War. This would search
for George Bush, but would exclude anything that would have
Iraq or War in the page.
- Are you looking for something on a specific website? Try
it like this "Search Engines host:www.adsnet.com",
host:website narrows it down to
only the website you request and would probably come up
with this page.
- Add quotations around phrases to make
searches more specific (ex. "Peter Rabbit goes to the
store."). This would make the search engine search
for the phrase, instead of each word individually.
- All these tips used together would probably get your right
where you wanted to be. Use them together, use them seperate,
but they make searching for what you want easy as cake.
