| How do I set up my email account. |
|
| I have sooooo much junk mail. Can I get rid of
them? |
|
| I know what I want, I don't know where to get
it! |
|
| I want to chat with friends and family! |
|
| How can I send them pictures? |
- Email your family and friends pictures through programs
like Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook. Also sign
up for free email accounts at Hotmail.com,
Yahoo.com, Google.com.
|
| I want to shop on the internet. Where should
I go? |
- Depending on your needs, there are thousands of
places to go! If you are a collector, or are interested
in selling items on the internet, Ebay.com
is the place to go. Otherwise, search on the web for
your needs. Try adding "Shopping"
to your search to cut down on useless websites showing
up.
|
| The Internet is world-wide, but I only want
to find things that are local! |
- Try searching for your city in a search engine,
ex "Michigan
City, IN". Top results are usually school
web pages, town council web pages, and city web pages.
If you can't find the information on the page, you
will probably have plenty of ways to contact someone
for help.

| Pop-up advertisements show up on my screen, is
it ok to click on them? |
- No. Pop-up advertisements are always trouble. Most pop-up
advertisements are a way for attackers to install unwanted
software on to your computer.
The intention of most pop-up adds is either for companies
to advertise their products or a means to attack internet
browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer. Try to resist
the temptation to click on an ad that promises to stop these
ads from coming up or giving you cash bonuses for clicking
on the ad.

| How do I avoid viruses? |
- Viruses behave in different ways. Some viruses stay active
in memory until you turn off your computer. Other viruses
stay active only as long as the infected applications is
running. Turning off your computer or exiting the application
removes the virus from memory, but does not remove the virus
from the infected file or disk.
Some viruses are programmed specifically to damage the
data on your computer by corrupting programs, deleting
files, or erasing your entire hard disk.
All computer viruses are manmade. A simple virus that
can make a copy of itself over and over again is relatively
easy to produce. Even such a simple virus is dangerous
because it will quickly use all available memory and bring
the system to a halt.
Trojan horses are not viruses; however, they are often
thought of as viruses. A trojan horse is a program that
appears to serve some useful purpose or provide entertainment,
which encourages you to run it. But, like the Trojan horse
of old, it also serves a covert purpose which may be to
damage files or perhaps plant a virus on your computer.
Many computer viruses turn out to be hoaxes or myths.
Hoaxes are false alerts about viruses that don't exist.
For a list of hoaxes check out Hoax Warnings On The Run.
